Welcome to the 15th Edition of The Solar Dispatch!

Going solar is a long-term decision, and knowing what to look for can make all the difference. From choosing the right system and installer to understanding installation, commissioning, and what happens after your panels are on the roof, there’s a lot to consider. In this edition, we cover all this and more:

  • Horizon Insights: Our two-part guide to going solar, covering what homeowners need to know before, during, and after installation.
  • Horizon Updates: A look at a recent homeowner’s experience with Horizon, from installation to handover.
  • Solar Sector Updates: Key developments shaping India’s solar landscape and the wider industry.
  • Solar Innovations: New technologies and ideas shaping the future of clean energy.

Horizon in the Spotlight

A New Rooftop. A Smarter Way to Power Home.

We recently handed over a 5 kW rooftop solar system to Debashish Dey, marking another step towards cleaner, more reliable home energy. From installation through to handover, the system was designed and executed with long-term performance in mind.

Indian Solar Updates

Global Solar News

Horizon Insight

This month, we are shining the spotlight on one of India’s biggest builders, literally! Cement drives infrastructure, but its carbon footprint is massive. In this edition, we see how solar power can help.

  • Cement & Carbon: The hidden emissions behind every bag and solar solutions that make a difference. Plus, a peek into how cement manufacturers are integrating renewable energy (RE).
  • As always, we also have a roundup of the latest solar sector news from India and abroad.
  • Finally, some tech innovations that caught our eye this month.

Cement quite literally builds modern India, but it comes with a steep carbon cost. India, the world’s second-largest cement producer (391 MT annually), generates ~226 MT of CO₂ emissions from this sector alone.

To grow sustainably, the industry must pivot and the solution is right above us! Solar power is already helping India’s cement leaders lower emissions, lock in savings, and strengthen competitiveness. Read more

Researchers find perovskite solar cells function 10 meters below sea surface

Researchers in China deployed lead halide perovskite solar cells 10 meters below the surface of the South China Sea. The cells generated 324 mWh, enough to charge lithium-ion batteries, when submerged for two hours.

Solar panel waste silver turned into a catalyst for carbon monoxide production

Researchers in South Korea have developed a method to upcycle silver nanoparticles recovered from silicon solar panels into electrocatalysts for high-rate carbon monoxide (CO) production. CO is an industrial feedstock used to produce chemicals and fuels.
