Horizon’s Solar Dispatch - February 2026

Welcome to the February Edition of The Solar Dispatch!

As India’s logistics and warehousing sector expands at record pace, this edition turns its focus to one of the most underutilized energy assets in the country: warehouse rooftops. The newsletter covers:

  • Warehouse Solarization
  • The latest news from Solar Power Industry across India
  • Key global renewable energy highlights

Horizon Insights

India’s warehousing footprint is expanding rapidly, but most large-format roofs remain underutilized. In many cases, energy consumption is relatively low compared to the massive rooftop area available.

This creates a powerful opportunity: warehouses can generate far more energy than they consume and sell the surplus. Warehouses are no longer just for storage; they are power producers. With Virtual metering, the large roof space can easily be used to sell solar power to other customers, adding a fresh, consistent source of revenue. Read more details in the article

In this short video, Siddharth Sourabh, DGM – BD & Sales, Horizon Renewable Power,  explains why rooftop solar makes practical sense for RWAs, not as a “green add-on,” but as smart financial infrastructure that pays for itself over time.

Horizon Insight

This month, we are shining the spotlight on one of India’s biggest builders, literally! Cement drives infrastructure, but its carbon footprint is massive. In this edition, we see how solar power can help.

  • Cement & Carbon: The hidden emissions behind every bag and solar solutions that make a difference. Plus, a peek into how cement manufacturers are integrating renewable energy (RE).
  • As always, we also have a roundup of the latest solar sector news from India and abroad.
  • Finally, some tech innovations that caught our eye this month.

Cement quite literally builds modern India, but it comes with a steep carbon cost. India, the world’s second-largest cement producer (391 MT annually), generates ~226 MT of CO₂ emissions from this sector alone.

To grow sustainably, the industry must pivot and the solution is right above us! Solar power is already helping India’s cement leaders lower emissions, lock in savings, and strengthen competitiveness. Read more

‘Solar battery’ stores sunlight for days, then releases hydrogen on demand

For the first time, a material that can store the energy from sunlight and release it in the form of hydrogen has been successfully demoed. Developed by researchers from Ulm and Jena, it stores solar energy & converts it into hydrogen days later.

Australian startup scaling up printed solar technology

Kardinia Energy has secured AUD 2.15 million to scale up its flexible, low-cost printed solar technology. The funds will help increase production throughput and module efficiency. The technology was seen at a 2025 concert, partnering with rock band Coldplay, when it deployed mobile solar at a live concert venue.

That’s it for this month and year, folks! Remember, Solar isn’t just a purchase, it’s a long-term decision about cost, reliability, and governance.
